Six Senses Kanuhura
Six Senses has set a high bar for resorts all across Asia, but even by its own lofty standards, Six Senses Kanuhura is an exceptional place to holiday. Spread over three coral islands, the resort is a 40-minute seaplane flight from Malé in a part of the Maldives known for its healthy coral gardens, 100-strong pods of dolphins and abundance of sea turtles.
Complimentary bikes, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards are just some of the ways to explore the 1.4-kilometre-long island and its luminous lagoon. Other options include complimentary sessions with the resident marine biologist or sustainability manager, tours of the organic gardens, or private beach picnics on one of the outlying islands.
In classic Six Senses style, the spa programme is almost absurdly extensive, ranging from massages and facials to biohacking, breath work and four different kinds of yoga. Of the seven bars and restaurants, highlights include Italian-inspired Bottega, the eclectic and versatile Market, and most certainly The Point, a spectacular circular building with a Spanish restaurant downstairs and an infinity pool on the roof with a swim-up bar and breathtaking ocean views.
Accommodation ranges from beachfront couples’ villas either with or without a pool to overwater pool villas and larger family options with either two or three bedrooms. Especially appealing are the 12 new retreats, all set on the beach complete with large private decks, spacious pools and double-height living rooms.
