Rockies to the Red Rocks

Luxury train Rocky Mountaineer is famed the world over for its signature service and glass-domed train cars. Although better known for its journeys through Canada’s Rocky Mountains, its latest route, ‘Rockies to the Red Rocks’, from Denver to Moab (or reverse) offers the same levels of jaw-dropping scenery, thoughtfully prepared regional cuisine and entertaining and educational storytelling. Here we top and tail the route with a two-night stay in Denver and a luxury coach trip through Utah’s desert parks to the neon lights of Vegas.

    Denver

Arrive in Denver, Colorado and enjoy a private transfer from the airport to The Rally Hotel for a two-night stay. This hip downtown hotel is just across the street from Coors Field stadium, home of Major League Baseball’s Colorado Rockies, and a subtle baseball theme runs throughout the property, from memorabilia housed in museum-style display cases to rooms with carpeting in the colours of the Colorado Rockies. Restaurant The Og specialises in brunch, while The Rally Bar smartens up classic ballpark staples with snacks like cherry-glazed chicken wings and smoked pork belly sliders.

Spend the next day exploring Denver. Duck into the Denver Art Museum, wander in scenic City Park, sip your way through the city’s many breweries, or if you’re there on game day, watch the Rockies play ball on a 66-by-20-foot screen in lively McGregor Square right outside the hotel.

  • Day 3

    Denver to Glenwood Springs

Board luxury train Rocky Mountaineer to start your two-day ‘Rockies to the Red Rocks’ journey from Denver to Moab. Sit back and relax, enjoying SilverLeaf service in a glass-domed coach with oversized windows that make the most of the passing scenery. Or perhaps upgrade to SilverLeaf Plus, which elevates the already exceptional SilverLeaf service to the next level with exclusive access to a lounge car, premium drinks and more.

The journey starts with a delicious two-course hot breakfast before crossing the Continental Divide while cutting through 6.3 miles of the Moffat Tunnel. Train hosts will captivate you with stories of the region as you take in views of the Colorado Rockies and the picturesque canyons of the Colorado River. A three-course, regionally inspired lunch will be served in your seat as the scenery unfolds. As evening approaches, the train will arrive at beautiful Glenwood Springs, where you’ll disembark and transfer to a comfortable hotel for an overnight stay.

  • Day 4

    Glenwood Springs to Moab

Leave Glenwood Springs rested and relaxed as you continue heading west aboard Rocky Mountaineer towards Moab. Enjoy a hearty hot breakfast and later a gourmet three-course lunch while the train’s hosts entertain you with tales of the American Southwest. Watch the morning light strike stately Mount Garfield and get a front-row seat to the red sandstone cliffs of Ruby Canyon on the Colorado-Utah border.

After miles of sublime scenery, the train will pull into Moab, Utah where you’ll disembark and transfer to Hoodoo Moab, Curio Collection by Hilton for a two-night stay, a smart and modern hotel with a full-service spa and an outdoor pool that’s heated year-round.
