Wickaninnish Inn
Surrounded by jaw-dropping scenery, this Relais & Châteaux boutique bolthole at the edge of the Pacific Ocean embraces the great outdoors at every turn, from panoramic picture windows in each room and around the front of the ‘wow factor’ restaurant, to the Ancient Cedars Spa offering treatments outside in the shade of towering spruce trees.
The Wick, as it’s affectionately known, is perched on a rocky bluff between the sea and an ancient rainforest, about a 10-minute drive from Tofino town centre, between Clayoquot Sound and Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. To its credit it takes its style pointers from the natural beauty all around it, with custom-designed furniture crafted from driftwood, slate tiles and hand-carved red cedar panelling. The spacious rooms all have balconies with million-dollar views, as well as deep-soaking tubs and cosy fireplaces.
The hotel’s Pointe restaurant is one of Canada’s finest dining spots, serving only the freshest seafood and farm-to-fork creations on the edge of the bluff. As well as a well-equipped gym and the Lookout Library adorned with books to while away any storm, the hotel also treats guests to complimentary bikes and all the wet weather gear you could need for a west coast adventure. A huge range of activities are also on offer, including surfing, sea kayaking, biking, fishing, whale and bear watching, and fascinating cultural tours guided by members of the Nuu-chah-nulth nation.
