The Phoenicia Malta
Standing at the city gates of Valletta, the Phoenicia is Malta’s longest established 5-star hotel, combining top-flight luxury with a standard of service that’s substantially above and beyond the norm.
Built in the 1930s, the Phoenicia still has a gently Art Deco feel, particularly in the elegant main lounge, the Palm Court, where afternoon tea should be taken at least once. Rooms and suites retain many of their original architectural features but have been brought up to date with uplifting colours and locally sourced furniture. Most offer heavenly views of Valletta.
The Phoenicia Spa & Wellness offers treatments, a fitness centre and an indoor pool. The hotel’s main restaurant, Contessa, rivals any of the capital’s top eateries, while the Club Bar serves cocktails to visiting stars and socialites.
Unusually for a Valletta hotel, there’s also plenty of space outside, where beautiful gardens run down to a terrace overlooking the harbour and perhaps the Phoenicia’s most pleasantly surprising feature: a huge infinity pool with breathtaking views over Marsamxett Harbour and Valletta’s ancient walls. It’s here too that you’ll find the Bastion Pool Bar & Restaurant, the best place for dining alfresco in the summer.
