The Fifth Avenue Hotel
The most eagerly anticipated hotel to open in New York for some time, The Fifth Avenue Hotel is as whimsical as it is luxurious, bringing a breath of fresh air to New York’s up-and-coming NoMad neighbourhood.
Located at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and 28th Street, close to Madison Square Park, The Fifth (as it’s known casually) combines a five-storey 1907 Renaissance-style building called The Mansion with an all-new 24-storey glass tower, creating a striking juxtaposition between historic and futuristic. Each of the 153 rooms and suites evokes a different sensibility, with distinctive colour palettes and eclectic collections of art and furnishings, from pagoda-style lamps and Asian-style wardrobes to Murano glass chandeliers and even ceiling lights that twinkle. A select number of suites even have private terraces – a genuine rarity in New York. The Baudelaire Suite, for example, faces Madison Square Park and the Empire State Building, while the Flaneur Suite’s wraparound terrace traces 28th Street and Fifth Avenue and includes a Japanese garden complete with outdoor soaking tub.
Award-winning chef Andrew Carmellini distills his 30-year career cooking in New York at signature fine-dining restaurant Café Carmellini. For more casual dining, try The Portrait Bar, a wood-paneled retreat with a carved stone fireplace and an exceptional art collection.
