The Danai
This family run member of ‘The Leading Hotels of the World’ commands an enviable position on the bluffs of Sithonia, the second ‘finger’ of the Halkidiki peninsula. Ultra-smart in appearance yet relaxed in atmosphere, the resort features immaculately designed suites and villas, creative cuisine and lavish experiences both on and off the water.
With a choice of 56 individually designed suites and villas, guests are sure to find an option to suit their needs at The Danai. Whether it’s couples looking for a romantic suite with a private pool and inviting sea views, or families in need of a spacious home-from-home with two en-suite bedrooms, an opulent living room and wraparound views of the sparkling Aegean, these elegant spaces are the epitome of high-design luxury. Of particular note are the five exquisite villas, tucked away for extra privacy at the edge of the resort. Sleeping between four and eight adults, these gracious villas are among the best we’ve seen in Greece, boasting one-of-a-kind features like deep infinity pools, marble fireplaces, Persian antiques and – in the case of one villa – a retractable roof to usher in the Greek sunshine.
Dining is no less impressive, with three restaurants and a terrific bar, all overlooking the resort’s private beach. The pick of the crop is Squirrel, one of the most lauded restaurants in all Greece, though with just five tables, you’ll need to book ahead for its degustation menu. More spacious is Andromeda, whose marble terrace provides a great setting for breakfast. Then there’s beachfront Anithos, which serves a wonderful mix of seafood and authentic Greek flavours. A recent addition to The Danai is The Noble House, which features Greece’s largest wine cellar with over 1700 labels as well as a tasting room, event kitchen and outdoor seating for wine-pairing evenings.
The beautiful spa offers everything from a Finnish sauna and heated indoor pool to Shiatsu and Ayurvedic massage. There’s a kids’ club, boutique and tennis courts on site, while down on the beach you’ll find a watersports centre, sun loungers, day beds and a bookable collection of private beach cabanas complete with sofas and double beds.
