Reschio Hotel
Set in rural Umbria close to the Tuscan border, Reschio Hotel provides luxury accommodation in a beautifully restored 11th-century castle, on a vast estate that includes stables home to some of the world’s most skilled dressage horses.
Dating back to 1050, the fairytale castle was rescued from decay by its current owners, who set about restoring the venerable old building, leaving arches, roof beams, vaulted ceilings and other original features intact but adding their own mix of antiques, paintings and eclectic bespoke furnishings. The result is a supremely stylish hotel whose gorgeous interiors are every bit as jaw-dropping as the surrounding hills and valleys.
Most rooms and suites are in the castle itself, with just six suites outside the ramparts in a former vestry. Each is different from the next but all have been designed with incredible attention to detail and packed with curiosities. Most extraordinary of all is the two-bedroom Tower Suite, spread over five floors and topped by a terrace offering 360-degree views of the hills.
Castle facilities include a beautiful outdoor pool, an adjacent pool bar housed in an ancient round watchtower, a subterranean spa located in the castle’s old wine cellars, and two farm-to-table restaurants championing seasonal local produce. Wider estate activities include riding and dressage performances, cooking classes, foraging, wine and olive oil tasting (the estate produces both), truffle hunting, clay pigeon shooting, tennis, cycling and hiking.
