Nimmo Bay
Surrounded by one of the world’s last remaining tracts of temperate rainforest, Nimmo Bay is an intimate, family-owned wilderness retreat on the wild and remote shores of Canada’s Pacific coast. It’s hard to think of a better antidote to today’s busy lives.
The setting is profoundly beautiful. A waterfall cascades into the middle of the property, supplying power as well as opportunities for a bracing dip, ideally after a sauna or a soak in the outdoor hot tubs. Accommodation is split between ocean-facing intertidal cabins moored on the shores of a pristine bay, and forest cabins located beside a natural stream and waterfall. Each comes equipped with two bedrooms, one bathroom, a lounge area, outdoor seating and breathtaking wilderness views.
The atmosphere is informal and designed to encourage friendships, with hors d’oeuvres and drinks served every evening on the deck by the fire pit and meals enjoyed communally in the ocean-facing restaurant. Culinary experiences go far beyond the restaurant, however, with guests invited to forage for sea kelp, dive for sea urchins, help haul up fresh crab and cook s’mores on open fires after sunset snorkel trips.
Wildlife and adventure are, of course, the other reasons to stay here. Watch black and grizzly bears fish for salmon on remote shores. Spot orca and humpback whales in the surrounding waterways. Kayak or paddleboard through breathtaking scenery. Hike through rare and ancient rainforest. Or soar to new heights on a helicopter tour of 10,000-year-old glaciers.
