L’Andana
Dating back to the Medici era, L’Andana is a stunning Tuscan villa hotel set in the heart of the Maremma countryside, a remote coastal region dotted with rolling hills, olive trees and vineyards. Just seven kilometres from the Tyrrhenian coastline and the picturesque town of Castiglione della Pescaia, L’Andana is both a countryside retreat and a beach lover’s paradise.
Originally owned by Leopold II, the last Grand Duke of Tuscany, the property and its surrounding lands have an incredibly rich history, something that the Moretti family loved and made sure to preserve when they bought the estate in 2000, transforming it into one of the finest hotels in the area.
There are 9 spacious rooms in the Villa itself with another 24 rooms in the ‘Fattoria’, the hotel’s most modern wing. All rooms are decorated with Tuscan-style furniture and décor by renowned architect Ettore Mocchetti and most come with Tuscan stone fireplaces and views of the estate and rolling countryside. A further 14 suites are in the separate Casa Badiola, each offering a stylish living area, kitchenette and terrace with views of the hills and olive groves. At the newest addition, Il Granaio, there are 10 suites which can be converted into 5 two-bedroom apartements. There’s also an exclusive-use villa – the former stable of the Grand Duke’s hunting reserve – with a private pool, sprawling garden and four guest bedrooms.
Food and wine are the heart of any stay here, with much of the focus falling on the hotel’s Michelin-starred restaurant, La Trattoria by Enrico Bartolini, and its 600-label wine cellar. There’s also a spa by ESPA with an indoor pool and fitness centre, three outdoor pools, a small golf course, a tennis court that doubles as a football pitch, mountain bikes and cookery classes. For families, there is also a kids’ club and a free shuttle bus to the beach.
