Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac
Towering above the city’s Vieux Québec historic district, Fairmont Le Château Frontenac is Québec City’s most famous landmark – if you’ve seen a single photo of the city, chances are you’ve seen the château in the background, its green copper roof and orange-brick façade framed against a dazzling blue sky. Designed in the style of a Loire Valley château, it was built in 1893 on the highest point in town, offering views of the St Lawrence River in one direction and city panoramas in the other.
Although a tourist attraction in its own right, move past the lobby and you’re soon reminded you’re in a luxury hotel with more than 600 rooms and suites spread over six wings. The finest are the Fairmont Gold rooms, which offer wonderful river views as well as complimentary benefits like private check-in, exclusive lounge access and afternoon canapes.
Gourmands come to dine on the cutting-edge cuisine of the Champlain Restaurant, with lighter options available at the Sam Bistro and afternoon tea served at the Place Dufferin. Facilities, meanwhile, include a chic outdoor terrace on the sixth floor complete with cocktail bar and cabana area, an indoor heated pool, 24-hour gym and a wonderful spa with breathtaking views of the St Lawrence River.
