Coquillade Provence
Sitting atop a hill and surrounded by vineyards, Coquillade Provence is a glamorous golden hamlet composed of six country houses, the oldest dating back to the 11th century, and a more recent collection of Provencale cottages, with exceptional views of the Luberon hills and imposing Mont Ventoux.
A picture of Provencale calm and tranquility, romantic Coquillade offers elegant rooms split between a number of expertly renovated stone country houses, all built between the 11th and 17th centuries, and newer ochre cottages. However old the foundations, the highest quality is assured, with all rooms and suites boasting private gardens or verandas, Pierre Frey fabrics, locally sourced antiques, underfloor heating and immaculate bathrooms with tubs and separate rain showers. The Sunset Suite includes complimentary Champagne to enjoy in its outdoor jacuzzi, while the one-bedroom Pool Suite and six-bedroom bastide (country house) offer pools of their own and a host of added extras.
The area is beloved by cyclists and the hotel has its own acclaimed cycling centre, which rents mountain bikes, road bikes and – for the less energetic – electric bikes. It can also arrange guides and cycling tours of the local vineyards, valleys and hilltop villages. Additional facilities include tennis courts, two swimming pools (one with breathtaking views of the Luberon hills), a truly state-of-the-art spa and fitness centre, plus 36 hectares of vineyards and a winery.
The organic kitchen garden provides much of the produce on offer at the three restaurants, which range in scope from Mediterranean dining at Cipressa, “bistronomic” style at Les Vignes et Son Jardin and fabulous fine dining at L’Avelan.
