Castello di Casole, A Belmond Hotel, Tuscany
This timeless Tuscan castle complete with sprawling estate dates back to the 10th century and is steeped in Italian history. It has been lovingly restored with an incredible eye for detail and respect for Italian craftsmanship and is now one of Belmond’s most luxurious hotels. The views of the Tuscan countryside are superb, and although both Siena and many notable wineries are just a short drive away, guests would be forgiven for never wanting to leave the grounds.
The 39 suites are located in the castle and its adjacent buildings. Most stick closely to the stylistic parameters of the old castello, with reclaimed timber, terracotta tiles, antique headboards and velvet-upholstered furniture. The exceptions are the strikingly contemporary Oliveto Suites, which have some of the best views of the Tuscan countryside.
Signature restaurant Tosca is proudly Italian, the epic-sized pool has one of the best views in Tuscany, the former wine cellar has been magically transformed into a world-class spa, and guests are kept busy by a huge array of options, from horse riding and truffle hunting to stargazing and art classes.
