Katikies Garden Santorini
Set across the grounds of a former Catholic monastery, Katikies Garden is a superb option for families looking to combine caldera views with a great location in the historic town of Fira. It’s the first of the much-loved Katikies hotels to welcome children to Santorini but has lost none of the brand’s commitment to luxury in the process.
Inside it’s a far cry from the cave-like hotels that pepper much of the island. Open courtyards filled with fountains and colourful plants give a distinctly Moorish feel, while looping monastic arches carry the echoes of Venetian rule. The sensational caldera views for which the island is famous are still here too. Take them in from the gorgeous infinity pool while staff bring you drinks from the poolside bar. Or enjoy them from one of the sea-view suites complete with private veranda and open-air hot tub. Other suites (there are 40 in total, split across seven categories) boast private gardens with their own mini plunge pools.
Selene, the on-site restaurant, is one of the finest on the island. Opened 37 years ago before Katikies owned the site, it’s now under the guidance of Michelin-star chef Ettore Botrini, who continues to champion unique local ingredients and the gastronomic traditions of the island. Alongside the restaurant, Yiannis Karakasis, one of only about 400 Masters of Wine in the world, runs the Selene Wine Bar and underground cellars, where tastings are often focused on Santorini’s storied wine culture. A picturesque garden spa, fashion boutique and concierge service round out the facilities.
