El Encanto
This elegant hilltop hideaway could scarcely feel more different from Los Angeles, just a 90-minute drive away. For starters, no road is either visible or audible, and from the moment you walk in you’re immediately met by views of the Pacific Ocean, glittering beyond the large restaurant terrace.
This air of tranquillity is carried through to the luxurious rooms and bungalows, which are spread across seven acres of lush sloping gardens. Many have balconies or outdoor terraces; the best have patio gardens. The main restaurant is one of the best in southern California, though drinks in the lounge, treatments in the fabulous destination spa and dips in the especially pretty pool are also highlights of any stay.
