    Al Hajar Mountains

Arrive in Muscat and transfer to Alila Jabal Akhdar for a three-night stay. Spectacularly perched on the edge of a ravine in the Al Hajar Mountains, the hotel boasts a host of ways to enjoy the surrounding scenery, including cliff-edge dining, mountain biking, via ferrata rock climbing and hikes around Jebel Shams, Oman’s highest peak. For something more relaxing, book a private stargazing experience or a treatment at the spa using traditional Omani frankincense oil.

    Sharqiya Sands

Swap the craggy peaks of the mountains for the sculpted dunes of Sharqiya Sands (formerly Wahiba Sands) with a night at permanent desert camp, Arabian Nights Resort & Spa. Home to some 3,000 Bedouin, the towering dunes of Sharqiya Sands – some of which stand over 100 metres tall – are just a few hours from Muscat yet remain a wild, peaceful and otherworldly place. The hotel offers fat biking, sand boarding and wonderful opportunities to learn about Bedouin culture.

  • Days 5-7

    Salalah

Travel back to Muscat for an afternoon flight to Salalah in the southern Dhofar region of Oman, then transfer to Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara for a three-night stay. Take time from relaxing on the beach or by your villa’s private pool to explore the wonders of Dhofar, including the tomb of the Prophet Job, the ‘lost city’ of Ubar, the bewitching Al Husn Souk in Salalah, and the UNESCO-listed sites of the Land of Frankincense. Salalah is also a great staging post for trips into the fabled Rub Al Khali or Empty Quarter, the largest sand desert in the world.
