Cameron Highlands
The Cameron Highlands is Malaysia’s most extensive hill station, a welcome escape from the heat of the jungles, beaches and lowlands – a tapestry of neatly clipped tea plantations, rolling green hills and pick-your-own strawberry farms.
A trip to the Cameron Highlands is to follow in the footsteps of Malaysia’s colonial administrators, who headed into these verdant green hills to escape the humidity of the lowlands.
Named after William Cameron, the surveyor who mapped the area, the region offers wonderful opportunities to witness tea leaves being picked and packed at famous estates like the BOH (Best of Highlands), established in 1929, to look around flower farms, go strawberry picking in the fertile uplands, or hike well-marked trails through relatively unspoiled stretches of jungle. The hotels here often hark back to the colonial era, treasuring such traditions as afternoon tea and cocktails at dusk.
