Thailand Family Escape: Elephant Hills and Khao Lak
An easy adventure for family of all ages combines the inviting long beaches of Thailand and the islands of the Andaman Sea with the Khao Sok national park and the Elephant Hills experience.
At Elephant Hills, families with older kids can stay on the floating lake camp and explore by kayak as well as the elephant encounter. Days 1-2
London to Khao Lak
Fly overnight to Phuket, head just an hour north to Khao Lak, an area of quieter beaches, Thai culture and places to explore.
Stay for four nights at the Avani+ Hotel in a Two-Bed Family Suite. -
Days 3-5
Khao Lak
There’s an excellent selection of hotels in Khao Lak, out of the way of the larger developments in Phuket. The Avani + is ideal for all ages, with plenty of sports, games rooms and a good choice of unfussy food stops. Not forgetting the long, sandy beach for lazy days in the sun.
A short hop from the resort are local markets and cafes, you can explore in the nearby hills, or take boat trips to the islands of the Andaman Sea. -
Day 6
Elephant Hills Jungle Camp
You’ll be picked up from your hotel for the short journey to Khao Sok national park and all the fun of the Jungle Camp. This afternoon join a guided paddle down the Sok river under the spectacular cliffs, surrounded by primary rainforest on the lookout for hornbills.
See the elephants up close at the elephant encounter, where the mahouts lead them to their bathing area and you will all have the chance to feed the elephants their afternoon treats.
In the evening Relax and enjoy the simple Thai buffet food, with optional entertainment including a Thai dance by local school children, a movie presentation and a Thai cooking class. Stay in the safari style tents, which can fit a family of four, or take two tents for a small supplement.
